This purpose of this chapter is to reveal my research concerning Barbara Sarah Coup aged 17 years who married Mark Richards, aged 20 years, on the 7 May 1865, at Alfreton Parish Church..
To date, I cannot find either a civil registration or baptism for a Sarah Barbara Coup(e), but I have found Barbara Sarah Coup. Her certified copy birth certificate issued by the General Register Office, records Barbara Sarah Coup, born 11 July 1850 at Pleasley Hill in the parish of Mansfield, County of Nottingham. Her father is recorded as Henry Coup, a labourer and her mother as Ann Coup formerly Hill. Her mother registered the birth on the 13 August 1850 and told the Registrar that her residence was Pleasley Hill, parish of Mansfiled. The name of the Registrar is not clear on the certificate.
Barbara Sarah Coup was baptised on the 11 May 1851 at Pleasley Parish Church, father Henry Coup. Entry states aged 10 months.
There is no doubt in my mind that Barbara Sarah Coup and Barbara Sarah Coup are one and the same person. At the time of her marriage to Mark Richards, she has changed her christian names around and clearly given a wrong age at marriage. She was under 15 years old. Was this done to hide her correct identity?
Mark Richards, the groom remarried in 1870, and was stated to be a widower. I cannot find a death for Sarah Barbara Richards or a Barbara Sarah Richards, either in the civil registration indexes or parish registers.
Where did she die and where is she buried?
My research reveals:
Henry Coup bapt. 17 December 1826 at Pleasley Parish Church to Thomas and Mary Coup.
Henry Coup married Ann Hill on the 6 August 1849 at Pleasley Parish Church
Barbara Sarah Coup bapt. 11 May 1851 at Pleasley Parish Church. above parents. Entry states aged 10 months.
Hannah Coup bapt. 20 June 1851 at Pleasley Parish Church. above parents.

1865. | 7 May. Alfreton Parish Church, Derbyshire.
On the 7 May 1865, Mark Richards, aged 20 years, a Bachelor and a Miner of Somercotes
married Sarah Barbara Coupe aged 17 years, a Spinster also of Somercotes. The
marriage was at Alfreton Parish Church, after Banns called. Both made their "marks". Their
witnesses were Henry Richards, the grooms brother and Catharine Richards, his niece,
both of whom made their "marks".
The father of Sarah Barbara Coupe was Henry Coupe, a Coal Miner. I suspect the bride may have been pregnant!
