Back to work - 1926 Strike.

   This image shows a group of Palterton miners at Glapwell Colliery on the first day back at work after the 1926 pit strike.
   Back row second from left is Bill Mosley. Middle row extreme left man is Tommy Churn.
   Centre man with shovel (shining) handle on body / arm - no cap - is 'Nobby' Hartley and behind him, heads touching is Mr Jenkins.

Pit sinkers

   This image shows a group of pit sinkers from the village.
   Most likely these men were sinkers at either Ramcroft or Glapwell Collieries.
   Some may be (unlikely) Scarcliffe men.

Miners Safety Lamp

   This type of lamp was used underground by miners to detect methane gas in the airways.
   Often referred to as a 'Davey' Lamp.
