The Richards in Palterton

1901.  My Richards arrived in Palterton sometime after the census date of 8 April but before 1 December.

Mark Richards born 1 February 1845 and his wife Agnes arrived with their children Jacob aged 20 years, Mathew Henry (Harry) aged 15 years and Agnes aged 11 years.  They came to Palterton from the small village of Peggs Green, Leicestershire.

His eldest sons Eli Richards, wife Mary and daughter Annie A. aged one year and George Richards, wife Sarah and son Jacob aged one year also arrived in the village in 1901.  They too had arrived from the village of Peggs Green, in Leicestershire.

It is not known whether or not these older married children and their families arrived in Palterton at the same time as their parents, but they were in the village in late 1901.

Mark and his working children came to the village and worked at nearby Glapwell Colliery, that had been sunk in 1882.

Research has revealed that Mark's older sister Eliza Leivers and her husband Vincent and family had lived for several years at nearby North Wingfield.

This page is still being developed, the information is known. (March 2008).
