The purpose of this page is to provide snippets of information and a few images concerning this village that has been forthcoming during my years of research.
It has never been my intention to actively research this village history.

   This is a rare image (date not known) of the railway station at Scarcliffe.

   This image is dated circa 1919.  It is the cottage on the east side of the road opposite Poulter Wells.
   Mrs Cocker and son Harold are sat on the wall.  This image was sent to an address in Floats Road,
   Baguley, South Manchester.(possibly to a girl servant).  It was sent to a Miss A.E. ?? by T. or S. A.
   Floyde.  The wording thereon: "Received box this morning.  Thanks very much for it.  Am sending parcel
   on Friday.  Do you know this house?  It is Smiths at the bottom of Palter Well".

   The identity of the brass band members has not yet been identified but it is an image that is circa
   1920's/1930's.  Enquiries continuing to identify the members.

   An early image of a Scarcliffe football team.  Their identities are not yet known but the man front row, fourth
   from left is Harry Elliott.  The man standing behind him hands on hips is George Elliott.  The goalkeeper is
   Frank Elliott.  Scarcliffe had many good teams during the C20.

   This Womens Institute ran for many years prior to the one at Palterton.  Identities of the women :
   Back row L to R: Mrs Jakeman, Mrs Harriett Curtis, Mrs Groves, Mrs Hart and Mrs Greta Churn.
   Middle row L to R: Mrs Marriott, Mrs Chaplin, Mrs Jenkin, Mrs Edwards (Palterton), Mrs Ruth Coupe
   (Hardwick) and Mrs Wass.  Front row L to R. Mrs Frank Chappell, Mrs Margaret Curtis, Mrs Beecroft,
   Mrs Aggie Coupe formerly Hardwick.

   To date none of these cricketers has been identified.

   This very old image of Main Street, Scarcliffe taken at the top end.  To date none of these people has
   been identified.  A close up of the children can be seen as an image in the "Who are they?" section.
   The man with the cycle is believed to be a "Jack Heath", but it is conjecture.  The houses on the right
   are still standing.  This is a very rare image of Scarcliffe.

   This is an old image of the Elm Tree Public House dated pre 1950s.
   The pub now renovated and refurbished still trades.  It is located at the bottom of Main Street.

   This image of an old cottage. long since demolished, was located on Main Street,
   close to the Parish Church.  At present (2007) I know nothing about this cottage nor the occupants.
            

Acknowledgement to Mrs Clifton. An old image of Scarcliffe Railway station.
   This is another old image of Scarcliffe Railway station complete with the Hunt family thereon.  Their names are L to R.  Stationmaster George Hunt,
   Jessie Hunt, Kathleen Hunt, Eric Hunt and their Housekeeper.  The name of the second Station man is not known (March 2007), nor is that of the other child.
   George Hunt was the station master in 1912 but not yet established his period at this station.

   Scarcliffe school photo with some Palterton boys thereon. Mr Yeomans is the Head Teacher.

   I have not yet identified any of the team but back row L to R: second boy may be Alf Frith.

   A Scarcliffe school photo that has some Palterton children thereon.  Nellie Rimmington is girl in spotted dress, black collar, third row back, third from left.
   George Rimmington is also hereon.  Can you help with the names of the youngsters?
             
             

Can you help with the names of these footballers? Scarcliffe Village Football Team, date not known, but probably c.1925.
   A Scarcliffe photo that has at least one Palterton player thereon.  Can you help with the names of any of these footballers?
   Although not yet identified, certainly George Rimmington a Palterton man is hereon.  He was one of the best local footballers
   at this time.
   I think it is a reasonable to believe there will also be an Elliott hereon.
