   This image is of the village school as at April 2003.
   The outside has changed little since opening in 1910.
   except for an extension built c.2000.

   Their identities L to R : Mr. Walter Churn, Mr. George Richard Clayworth, Mr. Ashley, Mr. Mark Wale,
   Rev. S. Biss and Mr. Bradshaw.  Rev. Biss performed the opening ceremony.

Were these school children or were they children living in and close by Orchard Terrace?   Note that at that time the first house was also a shop. A group of Palterton children 1912.  Note the corner shop.
   This image was taken at the corner of Orchard Terrace, Palterton.  A date on the back states 1912.  The identity of the children
   is not known and may never be known.  There is documentary evidence available to show the names of children attending the village
   school in 1912.  Some children in this image may have been too young to have started school.

The Violin Class at Scarcliffe School. Scarcliffe School Violin Class 1905 -06.
   This image is of scholars at Scarcliffe school.  The little board states: Violin Class 1905 - 06.  At that time
   there was no school in Palterton and children from the village were educated at Scarcliffe school.  This
   meant a journey of about two miles in either direction.  The two girls holding the board are L to R -
   Ruth and Elizabeth Elliott.

This image probably shows most of the scholars c.1907 Scarcliffe School c.1907
   This is the second earliest school image discovered and dates circa 1907.  The boy in the front row
   (centre) with stick in hands is Fred West born in 1899. He appears to be aged about 8 years.  None
   of the other children has so far been identified.  Palterton children are on this image.  The man
   front row extreme right is Mr. Yeomans, headmaster.

   At present I cannot identify any of the children nor do I know if it is
   Palterton or Scarcliffe school nor the year.

   This image is 1920'ish.

None of the scholars has yet been identified. Scarcliffe School with Palterton children thereon.

   Another very early image (c.1909) of boy scholars under the supervision of Mr. Yeomans, head teacher.
   They may have been exercising or simply posing for the photographer.

   This picture is of Palterton school children.  The brick wall provides the clue that it is Palterton school.  Scarcliffe school has stone walls.
   At present the date is not known but it will be in the 1920-1935 period.

   Scarcliffe school football team contains a mixture of both Palterton and Scarcliffe children.
