The Sutton Scarsdale Estate sale occurred Thursday, 6 November 1919 at the Market Hall, Chesterfield.
The Plans have been scanned and have been deposited at the Derbyshire County Record Office at Matlock.
1876. The beautiful residence known as Sutton Rock, a short distance from Sutton Scarsdale Hall was built after this year. It was built by William Arkwright, Esq. who in 1876 was a minor.
1881. Post Office Directory Derbyshire. Capt. William Blois occupied Sutton House.
1895. Kelly's Trade Directory Derbyshire. Charles Stuart Cockburn occupied Sutton Rock. From a later directory he was an Estate Agent for the Sutton Scarsdale Estate Office. My conjecture is that the Estate owned Sutton Rock
1919. Sutton Rock was sold in the Sutton Scarsdale Estate sale.
1925. Kelly's Trade Directory Derbyshire. Capt. Joscelyn Denis Penrose, an Agent for the Hardwick, Staveley and Chesterfield Estates Office (Duke of Devonshire) occupied Sutton Rock. This entry relates to 1924.
1941. Kelly's Trade Directory Derbyshire. Capt. Joscelyn Denis Penrose. J.P., occupied Sutton Rock. His Head Gardener was George Oakley.
1941. Kelly's Trade Directory Derbyshire. Capt. Joscelyn Denis Penrose. J.P., occupied Sutton Rock. His Head Gardener was Herbert Cragg, who was also a Tobacconist and Post Office.
